Viking Genes Registration

Viking Genes registration is now closed.

To take part in VIKING Genes, you must:

  • Have two or more grandparents from either the Hebrides, Orkney or Shetland
  • Be aged 16 or over

Please note: 

  • This is not an ancestry DNA test. Our study aims to understand the genetics and health of those with 2 immediate grandparents from the Hebrides, Orkney or Shetland.
  • You will be unable to take part if you have been involved in any of the Orkney Complex Disease Study (ORCADES), the VIKING Health Study – Shetland or VIKING II

To sign up you need to provide your name, date of birth, phone number and email address.

After this, participation in VIKING Genes consists of four easy steps:

  • Reading two information sheets
  • Providing consent
  • Completing our questionnaire
  • Providing a saliva sample
