EnQuest - Sullom Voe Terminal has awarded the University of Edinburgh’s Development Trust (Viking Genes Fund) £5,133.33 in support of the Viking Genes Shetland Community Screening Project.

Press Release – Viking Genes

Issued: 15 June 2026

The donation will support Viking Genes’ work to improve health and wellbeing in the community through its genetic screening project for Shetland residents aged 16 and over. Viking Genes is leading a major fundraising campaign for the Shetland Community Screening Project, which aims to identify individuals at risk of serious inherited health conditions and provide earlier access to preventative care.

EnQuest is delighted to support this important local initiative and contribute to work that could make a lasting difference for people and families across Shetland.

Alan Harcus, chair of the Sullom Voe Trust, praised Viking Genes:

“As part of Sullom Voe Terminal’s (SVT) Greenie Day Scheme, Viking Genes Shetland – Shetland Community Screening Project was selected as one of this year’s beneficiaries.

“The Greenie Day Scheme enables EnQuest to donate funds to local charities when key Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) performance measures are achieved at the terminal. This initiative allows local organisations to benefit directly from strong safety and operational performance, providing a positive incentive for the workforce while supporting the wider community.

“This year, the Charitable Appeals Committee recognised the fantastic work being undertaken by Viking Genes Shetland – Shetland Community Screening Project in its efforts to deliver community-wide genetic screening across Shetland. The project aims to identify genetic health risks at an early stage and provide pathways to appropriate treatment and support where required.

“We are delighted to be able to support this important initiative and look forward to seeing the project achieve its fundraising target of £1 million.”

Sandra Laurenson OBE, chair of the Viking Genes Shetland fundraising committee, said:

“It was a pleasure to visit Sullom Voe Terminal and receive such a generous donation.  It is good to hear that the terminal staff have a say in allocating community donations and we are delighted that the work Viking Genes is doing has been supported in this way.”

EnQuest operates the Sullom Voe Terminal in Shetland, a key energy hub that receives oil from the East Shetland Basin and west of Shetland fields for export worldwide. It is also developing the terminal for future renewable energy and decarbonisation opportunities, reinforcing its long-term connection to the islands.
